Playing with words is my sport
I’m Brandon.
I’ve always called myself that.
But it took me nearly four decades to start calling myself a writer, too.
I’m one of those people who’s had a hard time finding their calling. I’ve been an athlete, coach, trainer, painter, recruiter, sales rep, pastor, and scholar. I even made $1.37 playing my guitar on the streets of San Francisco during college, so I’ve technically been a professional musician as well. My resume is all over the place.
But since childhood, I’ve been pondering, dissecting, and arranging words into sequences that get a reaction. And throughout my various pursuits, I’ve been writing.
My experience is diverse. I’ve done copywriting, blogging, ghostwriting, fiction, journalism, and academic writing. This has given me the verbal versatility to write across various genres and reach a wide range of readers.
Oh, and in the process I earned a doctorate in ancient literature, which helped me hone my research and critical thinking skills. I love taking complex subjects and communicating them in interesting ways.
Because I’m a writer.
It took me a while to realize that my passion has been evident throughout my entire life.
I will never stop playing with words.

A Little Explanation on How I Use AI
There’s a lot of chatter about AI replacing human writers. It makes sense. Why pay someone when you can have a bot spit out a blog in the blink of an eye for free?
But here’s the thing—AI will ever replace human writers. This is a digital hill I will die on.
Why? Generative AI is great if you want to give people something they’re pretty sure they’ve already read before. It’s designed to be derivative.
But if you actually want to say something, and say it in a way that connects with your audience, then it requires a uniqueness that only a skilled human writer can produce. Good writing is not just about transferring information. It’s about connecting emotionally, too.
Can AI make you laugh? No. It’s too much of a copycat to be funny.
Can it convey your unique personality? No. It’s too generic to be you.
Can it offer a fresh perspective on a subject? No. It’s too neutered to be novel.
Can it produce brilliant material fueled by nothing but edibles and Diet Coke? No. Neither can I, though, so I guess we’re even on that one.
I don’t hate AI by any means. It’s a remarkable technological advancement, and I use it as the human sidekick it was intended to be. It’s my conversation partner, organizer, and copyeditor, enabling me to work more efficiently and reduce tedium without stifling my creative juices.
But great writing is always a product of great thinking, so I don’t let AI think for me. My creative process is personalized, and I love writing too much to let glorified binary code do it.
In other words, my writing is by a human and for humans.
No matter how much it advances, AI will never surpass human creativity. (I made ChatGPT write that line. Good sidekick.)
